Turtle Post Earrings
Turtle Post Earrings
Jenny Byrne and her team at Zealandia designed these turtle post earrings featuring fossilized walrus ivory. Sterling silver details, setting and wires. Colors will vary as each beautiful piece of ancient ivory is uniquely tinted by earthen minerals.
Fossilized Walrus Ivory: Prehistoric Fossilized or Mineralized Walrus tusk is around 500 to 3,000 years old. It is excavated along the Bering sea coast of Alaska by Eskimo families. The unique colors of this ancient ivory are created by minerals from the soil. This material is legal to carve and own. Due to the natural state of fossilized ivory, mammoth and walrus, clean only with a clean soft cloth. Care should be taken to not get black from the silver on the cloth as this can transfer to the ivory. Do not use jewelry cleaners, chemicals, soaps or detergents. Avoid extreme heat, moisture, and soaking.
"The fossilized walrus ivory we use in our ivory jewelry can span the neutral tones from creamy white to honey, reddish brown to black, depending on the minerals the walrus tusk was in contact with and the length of time it was in the ground. It is legally obtained from Native owned land, having been excavated by Eskimo families from old village sites on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska." ~Jenny Byrne
Tagua Nut: Tagua Nut is sustainably harvested by South American farmers. Collectors worldwide value Tagua’s luminous, ivory-like color and texture as well as its eco-friendly qualities. The tagua jewelry may have been treated with natural botanical dyes to enhance its singular beauty. Tagua nut jewelry has been carefully carved and polished. Avoid contact with lotions, oils, extreme heat, moisture and soaking to help prevent dulling. Polish with a clean, soft white cloth. Do not use jewelry cleaners, chemicals, soaps, or detergents.
